Do You Have Age Spots?
What Are They? What Can Help?
Fall is here, and as
you’re gazing into the mirror, saddened that your summer
glow ha s faded; you notice some dustings of copper colored
… Freckles? … Age spots? What are they? They are sprinkled across your cheekbones, forehead and nose, and appear to be multiplying by the second. Before you reach for the foundation, what are age spots, and what can you do to get rid of them?
This time of year, many women start noticing the
“freckles” that that they earned in the height of summer
months during trips to the beach or out in the garden.
Now that you regret those missed sunscreen applications,
are you a day late and a dollar short? Freckles
appear in children and young adults and fade after the
summer months. Age spots will only get worse as you get
older, and the scary news is, they can be permanent. Sun
damage is the culprit behind age spots, also known as
liver spots. Ultraviolet rays from the sun and
tanning booths can lead to an overproduction of melanin
(the pigmented cells in your skin) and uneven skin tone.
Age spots are your skin’s natural defense mechanism to
protect your skin from damaging UV exposure. Every
cosmetic counter, drug store, home shopping network and
skin care website offers a myriad of “miracle” lotions and
potions. So what are the active ingredients that can
really make a difference when comparison shopping for
anti-aging products?
Look for the following active ingredients that are known
to fight the skin’s signs of aging by evening out skin
tone, promoting clarity, hydrating and plumping up fine
lines and wrinkles. Consistent and continued daily use of
products with these ingredients can result in visible
improvement in the quality and texture of your skin.
